POWER RANKINGS - WEEK 1 Sept.15, 2017
POWER RANKINGS - WEEK 1 Sept.15, 2017
#1 PHILADELPHIA
The Flyers continue to push closer to locking up a playoff spot and even a president's trophy for the first time in team history. A dominant season so far as they have had no troubles scoring goals and keeping the puck out of the net. |
#2 LA KINGS
The president trophy winners a year ago, the LA Kings continue to show their dominance atop the West as they build a little cushion to lock down the conference season title. |
#3 WINNIPEG + + + + + The Jets are finally tast + ing their first bit of success after improving each consecutive season since the beginning. With the league's best offense as their primary weapon they are proving that great offense can beat out good defense. A big reason for their success comes from Patrick Kane who leads the league in points. |
#4 DETROIT +
With the leagues best defense the Red Wings are going to make the playoffs, this team has shown all regular season they can score and defend with the best of them. I can't see them relinquishing their play between now and season end. |
#5 NY RANGERS -
A power in the East, the young Rangers hope to get another taste of the playoffs but will need to make sure they don't take the foot off the pedal early as their is not much wiggle room for loses. |
#6 VANCOUVER - - -
GM Vanturennout was quite frustrated with his team over the last couple of weeks with their inconsistancy which pushed him to move young star forward Alex Galchenyuk to try and get the spark back that is Canuck hockey. The last 20 games will be crucial for a team that has a 7 point buffer to protect their playoff hopes. |
#7 PITTSBURGH + + + + +
The Penguins have another shot at the playoffs after two dissapointing finishes right around this time of the year. Currently holding the #3 spot in the East it will be a huge race to the finish line and they must play mistake free hockey the rest of the way to earn a playoff birth. |
#8 WASHINGTON - Washington is in new territory this season currently in #4 spot in the East. This team is tough and built on a strong defense, Having the 3rd lowest goal total in the league this team has been playing playoff hockey each and every night this season, a pedigree that should bode well for the final stretch of the season. |
#9 HARTFORD + If the Whalers mimic a perfect 10-0 record like last week, they should have no problem coasting into the playoffs. No other team is as hot as these guys in their last 10 so GM Aaron Adams must be feeling good about his chances of winning the fight for one of those 3 coveted spots in the East. |
#10 ST.LOUIS + + Giving the #10 spot to St.Louis based on their play of late picking up points in 9 of the last 10 games and finding a good groove heading into the final stretch. Playoff hopes are still in the cards for this team especially if the Canucks keep stinking it up. |
#11 MONTREAL Right back where they were in Week 5 the Canadiens will be apart of a huge playoff race that will probably result in 6 teams battling for 3 spots in the East with another 3 team with an outside shot of making it to the big dance. They will have to play better than 3-5-2 if they are going to be relevant. |
#12 QUEBEC - - - - The Nordiques are gaining ground on an even playing field with 6 other teams in hot pursuit of a playoff spot, every point from here on out will count and they better improve on a 2-6-2 record over their last 10 games. |
#13 ANAHIEM - - - - - - A bit of a drop for the Mighty Ducks who are only 9 points out of the #4 spot in the west; however, they will need to step up big time and snap their current 6 game losing streak if they are to have chance. |
#14 TORONTO + + + Finally coming up the ladder to wear they should be this team will be in the thick of things over the next few weeks as the Eastern conference playoff race heats up. Lucky for the Leafs they are playing better than most team over their last 10 games posting a 6-3-1 record. |
#15 BOSTON + + + +
Another team climbing up and benefiting from a weak western conference, the good thing for the Bruins is that their is only a 14 point difference between the #2 team in the East and the #9 team. With a current 4 game winning streak they are riding high going into a big Week 9. |
# 16 EDMONTON -
The Oilers need to figure out a way to shake thing up if they are going to make a run up the standings, whatever they are doing right now does not seem to be working well, but this is a team that has to believe their is lots of room to grow and develop some of their young players. |
#17 OTTAWA +
Well it can't get much worse for the bottom dewellers of the East. A 1-6-3 record won't do much to help moral in the dressing room. There is still an outside shot this team might be able to do something but it would take something of a miracle. |
#18 CHICAGO - -
The Blackhawks may be looking at a possible top 3 pick in next year's draft to help add to some of their talented scoring wingers. One thing for sure is there are some moves that must take place this off-season for the team to bounce back and start winning for a change. |
#19 COLORADO - - - - - Well this season was a big let down due to a lengthy absence of their GM Marco Necco who may not have a job next season with the club who faced big problems not having John Tavares or Cory Perry for most of the season and it showed. |
#20 CALGARY
ROCK BOTTOM! A DARK COLD CELLAR THAT OFFERS NO RAYS OF LIGHT OR HOPE. This team needs a drastic change to break out of the funk. Hopefully a new GM is just what the doctor ordered. |
